Ice Machine Making Cloudy or Dirty Ice
Cloudy, white-tipped or discoloured ice is a water quality and hygiene issue and should be treated as a food safety matter.
Possible causes
- Mineral content in untreated water
- Scale in the water circuit
- Biofilm in the sump or distributor
- Expired or missing water filter
- Contaminated bin
Safe basic checks you can make
- Discard the current batch of ice
- Check filter age and replace if overdue
- Inspect the bin and distributor for slime or deposit
Safety: Never attempt live electrical testing, refrigerant work, compressor replacement or major dismantling. Those tasks require a qualified refrigeration technician.

Can I keep using the machine with this fault?
Where the fault involves water on the floor, electrical tripping or contaminated ice, take the machine out of service. For reduced production you can usually keep operating while a repair is booked, but output will keep declining until the cause is corrected.
How quickly can this be repaired?
Cleaning, water-side and control faults are frequently resolved on the first visit. Refrigeration and component replacements depend on parts availability, and we will confirm a realistic timeline before starting.
Will a service prevent this happening again?
In most cases yes. Scheduled descaling, condenser cleaning and filter replacement prevent the majority of the faults we attend.
