Fault guide

Ice Machine Not Freezing

The machine fills and circulates water but no ice forms on the evaporator, which usually indicates a refrigeration or airflow problem.

Possible causes

  • Blocked condenser or failed condenser fan
  • Loss of refrigerant charge
  • Compressor not running or short cycling
  • Ambient temperature far above design

Safe basic checks you can make

  • Clean the condenser and air filter
  • Confirm the fan runs
  • Check ventilation clearance and room temperature

Safety: Never attempt live electrical testing, refrigerant work, compressor replacement or major dismantling. Those tasks require a qualified refrigeration technician.

When professional diagnosis is required

  • Anything involving refrigerant or the compressor
  • Condenser fan replacement
  • Pressure diagnostics

Preventing it in future

  • Quarterly condenser cleaning
  • Adequate back-of-house ventilation
  • Annual refrigeration inspection

Common questions

Can I keep using the machine with this fault?

Where the fault involves water on the floor, electrical tripping or contaminated ice, take the machine out of service. For reduced production you can usually keep operating while a repair is booked, but output will keep declining until the cause is corrected.

How quickly can this be repaired?

Cleaning, water-side and control faults are frequently resolved on the first visit. Refrigeration and component replacements depend on parts availability, and we will confirm a realistic timeline before starting.

Will a service prevent this happening again?

In most cases yes. Scheduled descaling, condenser cleaning and filter replacement prevent the majority of the faults we attend.
