Fault guide

Ice Machine Not Making Ice

A machine that runs but produces nothing is usually failing at one of three points: it is not getting water, it is not freezing, or it is not harvesting. Identifying which one narrows the repair dramatically.

Possible causes

  • Water supply isolated or inlet valve failed
  • Blocked water filter
  • Bin thermostat or ice level sensor stuck
  • Failed water pump
  • Refrigeration fault or loss of charge
  • Control board or sensor failure

Safe basic checks you can make

  • Confirm the water supply tap is open and pressure is normal
  • Check the machine is switched on and no error code is displayed
  • Make sure the bin is not full and the level sensor is not obstructed
  • Check the condenser and air filter are not blocked
  • Confirm the ambient temperature is within the machine's operating range

Safety: Never attempt live electrical testing, refrigerant work, compressor replacement or major dismantling. Those tasks require a qualified refrigeration technician.

When professional diagnosis is required

  • No water entering the sump despite an open supply
  • Machine cycles but never freezes
  • Any suspected refrigerant loss
  • Repeated breaker tripping

Preventing it in future

  • Scheduled descaling and cleaning
  • Water filter replacement programme
  • Keep clearance around the condenser
  • Log daily output so a decline is spotted early

Common questions

Can I keep using the machine with this fault?

Where the fault involves water on the floor, electrical tripping or contaminated ice, take the machine out of service. For reduced production you can usually keep operating while a repair is booked, but output will keep declining until the cause is corrected.

How quickly can this be repaired?

Cleaning, water-side and control faults are frequently resolved on the first visit. Refrigeration and component replacements depend on parts availability, and we will confirm a realistic timeline before starting.

Will a service prevent this happening again?

In most cases yes. Scheduled descaling, condenser cleaning and filter replacement prevent the majority of the faults we attend.
